Merino sheep breeding, West Wimmera
Hawkins Booroopki Farms grow wool and have a major breeding program of merino sheep. Underpinning this initiative is a nucleus flock which is overseen by an external stud classer and supplies all our merino rams.
This enables continual improvement to meet the present day markets. Older ewes are mated to terminal sires. Increasingly the merino wether lambs and crossbred lambs are being value-added up to export market weights.
In addition we trade lambs during the spring and market them for the export market in late summer and early autumn.
We work closely with suppliers and processors to achieve the best possible outcomes.
